History

Allied Medical Ministries, Inc. (Med-Mins) was incorporated in 1991 in Maryland by its founder Paul A. McCombs Maxey. During almost a decade of previous service to one of the main group recipients of donated pharmaceuticals from major manufacturers in the United States, Paul had been asked many times how short-term medical mission teams could access those supplies, for their mission trips outside of the U.S. Med-Mins was formed to improve access these resources, and received its final designation as a non-profit IRS approved 501 (c ) (3) in 1996.

Over the next 12 years, several different leaders of medical mission groups realized that the effort spent in soliciting medicines and medical supplies from local merchants could more easily be spent in fund raising and therefore partnered with Med-Mins to search out the best source and pricing for the specific needs lists for their missions. These partnerships resulted in hundreds of thousands of dollars in additional medications, medical supplies, and medical equipment being sent to countries like Belarus, Honduras, Nicaragua, Zambia, and Haiti.

For many years, Med-Mins has been providing medicines to a chronic care medical aid program in Lebanon. This program supports over 400 chronic care clinics and dispensaries in Lebanon, serving the Lebanese people and many internally displaced people and refugees. All of the medicines provided from manufacturing sources around the world meet US FDA, European Medicines Agency “EMA”, WHO “Essential Drugs List” requirements, etc.

Training a new generation of leaders in the work and mission of the organization continues at Med-Mins. As healthcare and communication technologies transform, Med-Mins looks forward to continuing its work of connecting new generations of volunteers and health professionals with the medicines, supplies, and information they need to transform lives.
